LINCOMIX 10% inj

COMPOSITION

Each ml of product contains Lincomycin 100 mg (as Lincomycin hydrochloride)

TARGET SPECIES

Pigs, dogs and cats.

INDICATIONS

Dogs and cats - In the treatment of infections caused by lincomycin-susceptible Gram-positive bacteria (streptococci and staphylococci) and anaerobe Gram-negative bacteria (Bacteroides spp or Fusobacterium spp.)

In tonsillitis, laryngitis and other upper respiratory tract infections.

In abscesses, infected wounds, purulent dermatitis, in septicaemia, when these disorders are caused by lincomycin-susceptible bacteria.

Pigs - In the treatment of infections caused by lincomycin-susceptible Gram-positive bacteria (streptococci and staphylococci) and anaerobe Gram-negative bacteria (Serpulina (Treponema) hyodysenteriae, Bacteroides spp., Fusobacterium spp. and Mycoplasma spp.)

It is recommended for the treatment of pig dysentery, enzootic pneumonia, septic arthritis, hoof abscesses, caused by lincomycin-susceptible staphylococci, streptococci, Erysipelothrix spp. and Mycoplasma spp.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

It is not recommended for use in species other than target species.

Do not administer to rabbits, hamsters, Guinea pigs, chinchillas, horses and ruminants because lincomycin can cause serious gastrointestinal disorders in these species.

It is not effective for the treatment of infections with E. coli, Salmonella spp., Streptococcus fecalis or yeast.

Do not use in animals with known hypersensitivity to lincomycin or to the excipient.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

None known.

DOSAGE FOR EACH SPECIES, METHOD AND ROUTE(S) OF ADMINISTRATION

Dogs and cats - Can be administered intramuscularly and intravenously

Intramuscular administration: 22 mg/kg bw once a day or 11 mg/kg bw twice a day.

Intravenous administration: 11-22 mg/kg bw once or twice a day, slow administration.

Pigs - Intramuscular; 4.5-11 mg/kg bw once a day for up to 3 days.

Do not administer more than 10 mL at a single site of injection.

It is recommended not to administer more than two injections per day.

At the 4.5 mg/kg bw dose, the maximum weight of the treated animal should not exceed 445 kg and at 11 mg/kg dose, the maximum weight should not exceed 180 kg.

Swine dysentery: In anorexic pigs, Lincomix 10% inj. Is administered in 1-2 IM injections every 24 hours at the dose of 10 mg/kg body weight for their appetite to return to normal.

Thereafter, treatment should be continued by administering lincomycin to the fodder or drinking water.

WARNINGS/ADVICE ON CORRECT ADMINISTRATION

In order to ensure a suitable dose, the weight of the animals shall be correctly assessed in order to avoid underdosing or overdosing.

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD(S)

Pigs - meat and offal: 3 days.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR STORAGE

Do not store above 25°C. Keep away from light.

SHELF LIFE

Shelf life of the veterinary medicinal product as packaged for sale: 2 years.

Shelf-life after first opening the immediate packaging: 28 days

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR USE IN ANIMALS

The use of the product should be based on antimicrobial susceptibility testing of bacteria isolated from animals.

If this is not possible, therapy should be based locally on epidemiological information on the target bacteria susceptibility.

Using the product in violation of the instructions provided in the SmPC may increase the prevalence of resistant bacteria and may decrease treatment effectiveness due to their cross-resistance potential.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN BY THE PERSON ADMINISTERING THE PRODUCT

In case of accidental self-injection, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or the label to the physician.

Avoid contact of the product with eyes or skin.

In case of accidental contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with water.

USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

The product can be administered during gestation and lactation.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER MEDICINAL PRODUCTS AND OTHER FORMS OF INTERACTION

It is not recommended to use with erythromycin, because an antagonistic effect may occur.

OVERDOSE (SYMPTOMS, EMERGENCY PROCEDURES, ANTIDOTES)

At the highest dose, pigs may exhibit soft faeces and diarrhoea.

None known.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR THE DISPOSAL OF UNUSED PRODUCTS OR WASTE MATERIALS, IF ANY

Any unused veterinary medicinal product or waste materials derived from such veterinary medicinal products should be disposed of in accordance with local requirements.

Medicines should not be disposed of via waste water or household waste.
