100 mg /ml, injectable solution for pigs, dogs and cats

Indications

In pigs

For the treatment of infections caused by lincomycin-susceptible Gram positive organisms, particularly Streptococci and Staphylococci, and certain Gram-negative anaerobic organisms e.g. Serpulina (treponema) hyodysenteriae, Bacteroides, Fusobacterium spp. and Mycoplasma spp. It is recommended in the treatment of porcine dysentery, enzootic pneumonia, septic arthritis, nail abscesses produced by staphylococci, streptococci, Erysipelothrix spp. and Mycoplasma spp. sensitive to lincomycin.

In cats and dogs

For the treatment of infections caused by lincomycin-susceptible Gram positive organisms, particularly Streptococci and Staphylococci, and certain Gram-negative anaerobic organisms e.g. Bacteroides spp. or Fusobacterium spp. In tonsillitis, laryngitis and other infections of the upper respiratory tract. In abscesses, infected wounds, purulent dermatitis, in septicemia when these conditions are caused by germs sensitive to lincomycin.

COMPOSITION

Active substance:

Lincomycin (as lincomycin hydrochloride) 100 mg/ml

 

Excipients:

Benzyl alcohol                                               9 mg/ml

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Not recommended for use in species other than the dog, cat and pig.

Do not administer to rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, chinchillas, horses or ruminants as this could result in severe gastro-intestinal disturbance. Not to be given to animals with known pre-existing monilial infection.

Not effective against E.coli, Salmonella spp., Streptococcus faecalis or yeasts.

Not to be used in animals hypersensitive to lincosamides.

 

ADVERSE REACTIONS

Not applicable.

 

DOSAGE FOR EACH SPECIES, ROUTES AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION

For intramuscular or intravenous administration in dogs and cats. For intramuscular administration only in pigs.

Dogs and cats:

Intramuscular: 22 mg/kg body weight once daily or 11 mg/kg body weight twice daily.

Intravenous: 11 - 22 mg/kg body weight once or twice a day, slow injection.

In pigs, the product is administered intramuscularly in a dose of 4.5 - 11 mg/kg body weight, once a day for a maximum of 3 days.

Do not administer more than 10 ml at a single injection site.

It is recommended not to administer more than two injections per day.

At the dose of 4.5 mg/kg body weight, the maximum weight of the treated animal should not exceed 445 kg, and at the dose of 11 mg/kg the weight of the animal should not exceed 180 kg.

Porcine dysentery: in pigs showing inappetence Lincomix Inj is administered. in 1 - 2 intramuscular injections at an interval of 24 hours in a dose of 10 mg/kg body weight so that the appetite returns to normal. After that, treatment should be continued by administering lincomycin in feed or in drinking water.

 

ADVICE ON CORRECT ADMINISTRATION

In order to ensure an appropriate dose, the weight of the animals will be assessed correctly, in order to avoid underdosing or overdosing.

 

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD

Pigs (meat and offal): 3 days.

 

SPECIAL STORAGE PRECAUTIONS

Do not store above 25°C.

Protect from direct sunlight.

 

SHELF-LIFE

Shelf-life of the veterinary medicinal product as packaged for sale: 2 years.

Shelf-life after first opening the immediate packaging: 28 days.

 

SPECIAL WARNINGS

Special precautions for use in animals

Use of the product must be based on susceptibility testing of bacteria isolated from animals.If this is not possible, therapy must be based locally on epidemiological information about the sensitivity of the target bacteria.

Use of the product outside of the instructions provided in the SPC may increase the prevalence of resistant bacteria and decrease the effectiveness of the treatment due to the potential for cross-resistance. Official and local policies regarding antimicrobial products will be considered when using the product.

Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the medicinal products to animals

In case of accidental self-injection, seek medical advice immediately and present the product leaflet or label to the doctor. Avoid product contact with eyes and skin. In case of accidental contact with skin or eyes, wash immediately with water. People with known hypersensitivity to lincomycin should avoid contact with the veterinary medicinal product.

Use during pregnancy, lactation or lay

Lincomycin may be used during pregnancy or lactation.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction

Clinical antagonism may exist between lincomycin and erythromycin and concurrent use is therefore not recommended.

Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes), if necessary

Higher levels of dosage than recommended may cause diarrhea and loose stools in pigs.

Incompatibilities

In the absence of compatibility studies, this veterinary medicinal product must not be mixed with other veterinary medicinal products.
